Group of senior high school students are playing basketball at STI College Caloocan’s court Saturday April 6, 2024. A typical physical activity for students who’s enjoying their free time. Sareena Mae Talisay, ITS Traveler's Notebook.

In the school’s outdoor basketball court, I’m actually entertained by a dynamic group of senior high school students is fully immersed in an afternoon game.

The scene is alive with energy as the students, dressed in a P.E uniform, showcase a vibrant tapestry of motion and emotion. This picture, more than a snapshot of a mere game, captures a poignant phase of life filled with friendships, challenges, and the pure joy of play before the inevitable journey forward into adulthood.

A gumamela bloom in a garden of STI College Caloocan Saturday, March 23, 2024. Gumamela is also known as Hibiscus, a native to warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions, the genus Hibiscus includes both woody shrubs and small trees as well as herbaceous plants.  Sareena Mae Talisay, ITS Traveler's Notebook.

As I walk across the campus, I notice something at the garden of STI College Caloocan, a gumamela open out. These plants are well-loved for their large, colorful blooms which can vary in color from red, pink, orange, yellow, to white.

A bright Hibiscus flower adds a pop of vibrant color to the school garden, standing out boldly against the lush green backdrop of leaves. Planted near the entrance, it greets students and staff each day with its wide, welcoming petals.

Green grasses grow in the field of some part of the school premises Saturday, March 23, 2024. They are usually upright, cylindrical, with alternating leaves, anchored to the soil by roots.  Sareena Mae Talisay, ITS Traveler's Notebook.

Upon admiring the beauty of the gumamela, I walked across the campus and this part of the field in our school catch my attention as it stretches out like a wide, open canvas of vibrant green. Upon observing the students who also stays in this field, I realized that throughout the year, this expanse of grass witnesses the rhythm of countless feet: the hurried steps of students running to catch a ball, the skittering stops of volleyball games, and the slower, thoughtful paces of students lost in conversation or contemplation.
